The Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojna was started on 10 March 2016 .The Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojna is an effective scheme to aid poor section of Indian society.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. While launching this beneficial scheme, PM Modi said that the cooking gas scheme will benefit 5 crore families till 2019.Ensuring women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the households. Rs. 8000 Cr. has been allocated towards the implementation of the scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for BPL:
As per the official data that was recorded in the year 2012, 276 million households belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. Any family whose household income is less than Rs.131 per day falls under this category. . The government has launched a number of schemes for the BPL households such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) ..
Main objectives of Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana are mentioned below:- Enhancing the status of women and caring their health.
- Help to decrease air pollution due to use of fossil fuel.
- Lessening the serious health risks related with cooking based on fossil fuels.
- Reducing the number of deaths due to unclean cooking fuels, which is about 5 lakh every year in India.
- Preventing young children from acute respiratory illnesses caused due to indoor air pollution by burning the fossil fuels.
Eligibility Criteria for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme:
In order to be eligible to receive the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme, applicants will have to meet the following criteria:
- Applicant must a woman above the age of 18 and a citizen of India
- Applicant must not be a recipient of other similar schemes provided by the government.
- Applicant should belong to a BPL (Below Poverty Line) household
- No one in the applicant’s household should own an LPG connection
- The household income of the family, per month, must not exceed a certain limit as defined by the government of the Union Territories and State Government.
Documents Required for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme:
The documents required for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme are as follows:- An authorized BPL Certificate by Municipality Chairman or Panchayat Pradhan
- BPL Ration card
- Identity Proof with photo (Voter ID/Aadhaar Card/pancard)
- A passport size photograph that was taken recently under in 6 months
- Driving License
- Copy of a passport
- Ration Card
- Self declaration that has been attested by a Gazetted Officer
- LIC policy
- Bank statement
Application Procedure for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana:
..The women applicant then need to fill her name, contact details, Adhar Number, Jan Dhan / Bank account number, other details and declaration form at the end of the application form.
..Applicant can opt for any one of the two cylinder options i.e. 14.2KG or 5KG.
..Candidates need to attach the required documents such as, copy of Aadhar card, bank account statement/passbook, residence proof in form of electricity / telephone / water bill or lease agreement or house registration document or flat allotment/possession letter.
..Applicant have to submit the completed application form along with the attached documents at the preferred LPG outlet.
..Oil marketing company will then assume de-duplication exercise electronically and other measures for due diligence for a new LPG connection.
..If the applicant is found to be eligible, the connection will be issued by the oil marketing company.
..The cost of connection will be borne by the Government.
Besides great benefits, this scheme has numerous challenges:
- Main challenge is identification of poor household for allotment of free LPG connection in the absence of proper and authentic data.
- Usage of socio economic caste census data may be misused by well offs or it remain poorly targeted.
To sum up, Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojna is one of the most important schemes to assist the unemployed or self-employed individuals of India. It is basically social welfare scheme to support poor section.
Steps to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme:
Applying for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme is not a very difficult task. Individuals will only have to meet the eligibility criteria and provide all necessary documents.
- Individuals will have to first procure the form which is available at all LPG outlets across the country and online at the PM Ujjwala Yojana website.
- This form will have to be completely filled with details such as Age, Name, Bank Account Details, Aadhaar Card number and so on.
